MORE INFORMATION ABOUT DELIVERY

The artist

For her tenth birthday, Eleanor McColl was given a toy camera. Even now, it is impossible for her to forget this gift, since it changed the course of her life. She was totally rapt with her little camera and captured all the subjects that drew her budding artist’s eye. Later, she studied fine arts at the University of Bristol and, unsurprisingly, specialised in photography. There, she discovered an interest in combining disciplines and soon stood out for her vibrant photomontages, influenced by her favourite artist: David Hockney. In 1999, she left England and flew to Hong Kong. She pursued her artistic career there, focusing on the urban environments that she depicts through her imaginative photomontages, which are always made by hand. Passionate about mixtures of textures and colours, she offers her audience a new way of seeing the world.  ... See more See less

About the artwork

With the Jardine Skies series, English artist Eleanor McColl pays tribute to one of her favourite buildings: Jardine House in Hong Kong. Each image is the result of three shots. The first two are created at the foot of the building and the difference between them is their focus, respectively sharp and blurry. Using these two shots, she creates a photomontage by hand. She plays with geometric shapes and optical illusions, dedicating the last shot to the final result of the photomontage.
