MORE INFORMATION ABOUT DELIVERY

The artist

Born in Portugal, photographer Luis dos Santos expressed a strong attachment for the fine arts very early on. In 2008, he started to focus on photography in particular, thanks to the advent of digital and post-production image techniques. These technological advances also enabled his camera's abilities to be surpassed and enabled him to strike a perfect balance between realism and abstraction. He considers this medium as a pastime that he easily combines with his professional activity. Passionate about architecture, the photographer sources inspiration from urban environments, in which he seeks to capture dynamism and majesty, whether they are historical or contemporary. From his home in Berlin, Luis dos Santos travels abroad in order to capture new and original constructions. He has participated in numerous international exhibitions, and his images are also highly appreciated and commentated online on specialised blogs.  ... See more See less

About the artwork

On the surface, we discover verticals and horizontals, vanishing points that are combined in order to give rise to a great sense of depth. The architectural structures seem infinitely reproduced while colourful openings rhythm the overall view. Verging on abstraction, the uniformity of the façades and the almost perfect symmetry confer an inhuman aspect to this modern construction located right in the heart of Tokyo. Luis dos Santos is passionate about contemporary monumental forms. He admires the great builders, such as Norman Foster, Frank Gehry, Ieoh Ming Pei or Mies van der Rohe, to name but a few. The photographer's secret also resides in the use of the "High Dynamic Range" (HDR) technique enabling the range of tonalities between the darkest and lightest zones to be mastered, in order to create photographs with optimal exposure based on a series of shots.
