André Monet’s portraits resemble photos but are nevertheless drawings. “Everything is done by hand,” he explains. “I create a background using old newspapers then I use a paintbrush to paint over it at first, then a toothbrush at the end to create relief.” Propelled to fame by the actress Halle Berry who bought his first portrait of Yves Saint-Laurent, André Monet has since become an international star by immortalising Prince William and Kate Middleton for their wedding in 2011.
