Xabi Etcheverry

SCÈNE JAPONAISE

About this photograph

A Geisha is literally ?someone who practices the arts.? Restricted to a very wealthy clientele, she is a lady with a refined entourage dedicating her life to the practice of the excellence of Japanese arts. Geisha still exist in contemporary Japan although their number is continually diminishing. The last advocates of this profession mainly reside in the Gion district of Kyoto.
