About the artwork

In tribute to designer Joe Colombo, Nicolas Velter has created a nocturnal view that sums up his attraction to both photography and art history. A master of staging, he is inspired by the furniture of Italian artist whose style, which falls within the great movements of the 1960s, is characterised by an innovative, futuristic, or even utopian approach. Created in 2010 in Brussels, Miniature #2 reworks his most famous interiors. With undeniable talent for composition and modelling, Nicolas Velter succeeds in reproducing the innovative forms of the furniture designs, industrial products and modular interiors that were to become increasingly complex over the course of his career, resulting in futuristic pods governed by a constant concern for functionality. This image reworks the concept of Joe Colombo?s ?living cell? and notably his ?night cell?. A few new elements appear in the photograph, leaving spectators free to interpret the scene according to their imagination.

The artist

Originally from Belgium, Nicolas Velter was born in Brussels in 1981. He started studying photography in 2002 and now works mainly in the worlds of fashion and advertising. Staging is at the heart of his photographic work. The details are deliberately placed and her arrangements are meticulously constructed. Both powerful and touching, his photos attract the spectator’s attention. The atmosphere is sometimes disturbing; leaving an impression that oscillates between harsh and gentle, raw and poetic. There is no doubt often also an element of irony.  ... See more See less
