About the artwork

Famous for his broad cinematographic views of Paris, this time the photographer roamed the largest city in the United States in order to capture ? with the same artistic fibre ? what he considers the most fascinating places.<cr/>His attraction to Hollywood cinema, ranging from Victor Fleming to Steven Spielberg and Ridley Scott, assumes its full meaning here and gives rise to strong, contrasting and nuanced images, recalling movie posters. His aesthetic sense, combined with his mastery of the tools of digital creation, allow him to give a highly detailed rendering to the images and to showcase the graphic qualities of the architecture he photographs and highlight the crepuscular atmosphere suggested by his grey and tormented skies. Places as emblematic as the Statue of Liberty, the Soho neighbourhood or Manhattan and its famous bridges thus appears in a new, dramatic and emotional light, deliberately accentuated here by the photographer. <cr/>

The artist

Passionate about images since a young age, Serge Ramelli decided to devote his career to it in 2005. He thus soon became a professional photographer and cinema producer. His creative and inquiring mind leads him to constantly explore new techniques, both photographically and digitally, in order to better recreate the grandeur of urban landscapes. He multiplies experiments in the field of photography and also successfully teaches various methods of mastering photography such as composition, materials, or retouching, via educational tutorials. These digital guides are designed for amateurs and professionals of the 8th art who wish to learn how to use creative digital tools such as Lightroom or HDR (High Dynamic Range), which allow powerful, contrasted, and dramatic images to be obtained.  ... “I have been passionate about images and cinema for a very long time. I was on holiday with a graphic designer friend who taught me the basics of photo retouching. It was a real revelation for me.”

CLAUDE DEGOUTTE

“The wall belongs to the ‘retards’, ‘inept’, ‘rebels’, ‘simpletons’, to all those with a big heart. It is the blackboard of the school of life,” says French-Hungarian artist Brassaï in his famous back Graffiti. A veritable ode to urban art, Brassaï’s reflection was to mark the a...
