Laurent PAILLIER

Laurent Paillier was born in Saint-Brieuc, France. He turned to photography early in his career and has dedicated his practice to contemporary dance since 1991. Over more than three decades, he has built a body of work rooted in the celebration of the moving body, light, and the fleeting instant. His work captures the vital momentum of dance, balancing tension and grace, and seeks to hold what escapes: the pure energy of movement and the presence of the body in space. In the studio, he constructs images in which a deliberately limited color palette highlights what is essential — bodily dynamics, light, and the graphic composition of motion. His practice is grounded in an ongoing dialogue between photography and painting, informed by references ranging from Cartier-Bresson to Pollock, Sieff to Kandinsky and Miró. This approach results in a visual language where each image becomes a celebration of life and grace in motion. Widely published and exhibited internationally, he is notably the author of Danser la peinture, created with Philippe Verrièle and awarded the Prix du Syndicat de la Critique in the “Best Dance Book” category.
