Laurent Paillier is based in Paris, where he has been photographing contemporary dance since 1991. Born in Saint-Brieuc, he has devoted most of his career to a single subject: the body in motion. “It is the celebration of life through the movement of the body that fascinates me,” he says. His photographs have appeared in *Le Monde*, *Libération*, and *Le Figaro*, as well as in *The Guardian* and *The Times*, and his work has been exhibited at the Théâtre du Châtelet, the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the KOGAN Gallery in Paris, and the Agora Gallery in New York. In 2016, he published *Danser la peinture* with writer Philippe Verrièle, which won the Syndicat de la critique award in the “Best Dance Book” category. The project juxtaposes dance and painting, two languages he continually brings into dialogue, from Cartier-Bresson to Pollock, from Sieff to Kandinsky and Miró. In the studio, his palette remains deliberately limited, allowing the tension of the body and the light to carry the image. Thirty years later, dance remains, for him, a subject one never stops observing.
