Golden dunes

Kelvin Yuen was born and raised in Hong Kong. “A metropolis where the city’s wild side often goes unnoticed,” he says. The turning point came in 2014, when he was eighteen, during an impromptu hike near his home: at the summit, a sea of clouds spread out beneath his feet. For him, it was the revelation of a world he never knew existed. Self-taught, he taught himself photography and returned to that same summit several times until he captured the perfect scene, identical to his first memory.
Since then, Kelvin Yuen has traveled to some of the planet’s most extreme environments, from alpine mountain ranges to the most violent atmospheric phenomena. “I strive for perfection in every detail, to capture landscapes that seem unreal yet truly exist on this Earth,” he says. His work has earned him several international accolades, including the title of Photographer of the Year at the International Landscape Photographer of the Year competition in 2020 and at the Epson International Pano Awards—an international panoramic photography competition—in 2024, after winning the youth category of the National Geographic photo contest back in 2015.
He is the author of *Kelvinism*, a collection of photographs of spectacular landscapes, and *Wilderness*, a photo book featuring the most remote regions of the planet, from the Himalayas to Canada’s Northwest Territories. He is also the official photographer for the UNESCO Global Geopark in Hong Kong and a photography consultant for the city’s tourism board. He has collaborated with Apple, Sony, drone manufacturer DJI, and Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong’s airline. His motto: “Beyond the trail. No limits.”
