The artist

Juliette Jourdain is a young French photographer based in Paris. After three years of photo studies at l'EFET, she started a career as an independent professional. Specialising in the art of the portrait, her portfolio subsequently testified to her great aptitude for staging. In a meticulously arranged studio set, her models give her their all in quirky and sophisticated poses. Her inspirations are numerous (fashion photography, cinema, painting) but are above all derived from drawing, which she has practised since she was very young, and thanks to which she enjoys and has become used to using her imagination. Her work published recently in Photo magazine was exhibited at the Rencontres d'Arles in July 2014 as well as at exhibitions in Lyon and Paris in 2015.  ... See more See less

I do not particularly wish to convey a message, as I create my photos above all for aesthetic ends. Everyone can find their own message in them.

JULIETTE JOURDAIN

About the artwork

Juliette Jourdain devises her photographs like a painter creates a canvas, composing a fantastic world set to the rhythm of her inspiration. Absorbed by the extravagances of the singer Lady Gaga and those of director Tim Burton, she has forged a sharp eye for the art of staging. Through the construction of highly polished surrealist sets, her portraits, most of which are self-portraits, focus on the creation of characters oscillating between quirkiness and elegance. With DAY 102 she once again entrances us with her boundless creativity, by transforming herself completely using various artifices: layers of make-up, costumes, wigs, and accessories. Her burlesque compositions are reminiscent of the work of American photographer Cindy Sherman, who examines the status of women and their representation within contemporary society.
