About the artwork

This photograph evokes the infamous figure of Griselda Blanco, former Colombian drug baron well known in recent history for her heartless personality. She is represented here in the form of a fish (a piranha?), with the animal serving here as a metaphor for thirst and greed. The rest of the image could also evoke childlike innocence, contrasting with the fate of the future criminal.

The artist

Living in Gothenburg, Sweden, photographers Marco Grizelj and Kristian Krän have collaborated since 1996 under the name AORTA. Alongside their personal artistic practice, both have worked for major companies such as Harvey Nichols, IKEA, Panasonic, Tuborg, Absolut Vodka, American Movie Channel, and have produced fashion photographs for famous magazines such as Schön Magazine or 125 Magazine. After graduating from the photography school of the University of Gothenburg, they decided to combine their talents and make their shared vision of photography a reality. They now create very powerful images that aim to reveal an imaginary world that is both surrealistic and playful. Drawing their sources of inspiration from illustrations or cinema, they assemble and associate different fragments of composed images to create a partially documentary world. An exhibition was held in their honour in London in 2014, the same year that they received the prize for the Moscow photography competition in the fashion photography category.  ... “The wall belongs to the ‘retards’, ‘inept’, ‘rebels’, ‘simpletons’, to all those with a big heart. It is the blackboard of the school of life,” says French-Hungarian artist Brassaï in his famous back Graffiti. A veritable ode to urban art, Brassaï’s reflection was to mark the a...
