About the artwork

What does an abandoned place say about an epoch? About a civilisation? About a moment? These are the kinds of questions we ask ourselves when contemplating Aurélien Villette’s photos. The photographer has a passion for architecture that influences, he says, “all of our lives” and whose variety is, for him “a daily source of wonder”. Irrespective of the country (in this series: Lebanon, Japan, Poland, or France), it is what he calls “the spirit of place” that he seeks to capture and share through his photos.
