The photographer created unrest by displaying a photograph accurately resuming the codes of the traditional painting of portraits. The framing of the subject corresponds to what is known today as an American shot, from the head to mid-leg. He is positioned three quarters on, but the head is face on and the subject is looking at the lens. This photograph taken in 2010 depicts a seller of cowpats used for fuel. The photographic depiction recalls the smooth stroke, with the impressive specular precision of the Flemish Primitive painters. The depiction of the materials - the woollen garments, furs, linen canvases but also the skin texture and the hair - is hyperrealistic. This sensual treatment emphasizes and magnifies it all.

After studying the history of art with a focus on classical painting, Yang Bin, then 31 years old, finally launched himself into photography. Success was rapid and works by this Chinese artist, born in Beijing in 1975, already feature in numerous private collections around the world.
