Born in 1972 in Mexico, Christian Vizl has been passionate about photography since he was 15. Weaving a deep bond with the ocean and its fauna from his earliest childhood memories, he devoted himself to underwater photography from 2011 onwards. He creates his images in the state of Quintana Roo in southeast Mexico, focusing on the use of ambient lighting to obtain dramatic effects and tonalities that emphasise the form and structure of marine environments. Armed with a diploma in business administration, this talented photographer became a dive instructor in 1997, then a cave diver, rafting and marine guide. As a member of the CEDAM, a Mexican organisation dedicated to marine archaeology, he has lived in Germany, Mexico, and Australia. Christian Vizl has won numerous awards, notably at the Sony World Photography Awards in 2017. Besides his publications in newspapers worldwide, he is also the in-house photographer of Ocean Geographic magazine and editor-in-chief for Scuba Diver and Asian Diver.
