German photographer Alexander Riek is a talented PhD scholar of wildlife studies and photographs magnificent nocturnal landscapes. Progressively educated at the universities of Bonn and Göttingen, he later travelled to Australia to pursue post-doctorate studies at the University of New England. Now based in Germany, he undertakes research in the field of thermo-biology and studies the adaptation strategies of animals in their environment. Alexander Riek is not exclusively interested in science and became passionate about photography in 2010, although he has produced images since childhood. Years of experience have enabled him to learn photographic technique and work on the composition of images and digital post-production. His talents soon attracted attention and many of his shots are now published in the form of calendars (Nikon), books (National Geographic Learning, Travel Photo of the Year Book Vol. 7) and magazines (Digital SLR Photography, Digital Foto, Wanderlust etc.).
