About the artwork

Intimately connected to the great North American cities, the photographer Vincent Garnier has already devoted several series to them, shot both day and night, and accentuating the incessant energy of their activities. He has now turned his gaze to Paris, the effervescent capital, like is neighbours across the Atlantic, although he is no longer focusing on the flow of passers-by, the incessant movement of traffic, or the low rumble of the inner city, but instead on the beauty of its architectural landscape. In the photographer's words, this new vision of the French capital is dehumanised, making it appear like a giant construction game that you contemplate from above, like a puzzle, model, or paper-mache decor. Vincent Garnier is interested in the various urban styles that reflect each period of Parisian history: the Haussmannian buildings rub shoulders with the architectural prowess of the World Fair, such as the Eiffel Tower or the skyscrapers in the business district of La Défense.
