About the Artist
Alexandra BUXBAUMAlexandra Buxbaum is a photographer based in Chicago and Phoenix who studied at Columbia College Chicago. For more than ten years, she has been photographing the human experience in its most diverse forms: ordinary lives, marginalized communities, and cultures from around the world. Her work has been published in numerous national and international media outlets and featured in more than 75 solo and group exhibitions at galleries, museums, and cultural centers. As a co-founder of the International Center for Documentary Arts, she has worked with hundreds of organizations, media outlets, and institutional clients around the world. In 2022, she was selected as an artist-in-residence through the U.S. Department of State’s Art in Embassies program. What drives her work is a simple idea: finding the extraordinary in the ordinary. While some photographers cover major events, she is more interested in the faces, gestures, and everyday moments that reveal something profound about the human condition. She travels throughout Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America, always with the same focus on people rather than places.
