About the artwork

Brisbane, 2013. On the riverbank that runs through the Australian megalopolis, photographer Luke Tscharke immortalises the line of the horizon. At the moment he released the shutter, the artist created a vertical motion with his tilt-and-shift lens, while prolonging the exposure. The result: the lights of the skyscrapers merge in a soft focus, plunging the spectators into a futuristic parallel world.

The artist

Motivate the world to respect nature and laud its beauty: this is Australian photographer Luke Tscharke’s fervent wish. A science graduate, he worked for major food-processing companies for years before retraining in photography. Fascinated by nature since he was a child, he naturally turned to landscape photography. This lover of walks in the bush never misses a change to grab his camera and capture the extraordinary beauty of nature. Among his preferred destinations, Tasmania is in pole position. Listed as UNESCO world heritage, the wilderness area of Tasmania, Australia, is a true source of inspiration for Luke Tscharke. He has endlessly returned to explore it, capturing and immersing himself in the wild treasures it has to offer. To the point where, in 2017, he decided to move to the island state.  ...
