About the Artist
Sara FRAYSSEWhat interests Sara Fraysse is not the city as a whole, but rather what we never really pause to notice: a facade, the angle of a shadow, the structure of a building, an empty space between two passageways. From these fragments of reality—whether urban or natural—she creates contemplative scenes, almost suspended in time. Her work is built around three recurring elements: color, light, and architectural form. The compositions are deliberately minimalist, entirely graphic, and stripped down to the essentials. She pays particular attention to natural light—whether diffused, low-angled, or veiled—which sculpts the forms and gives her images their almost dreamlike atmosphere. “Each image is an invitation to contemplation, a moment of pause where the viewer is invited to experience the space and reflect on the invisible that dwells within the visible,” she explains. She seeks less to document a place than to reveal its essence, convinced that a well-composed image is enough to evoke emotion. It is this same quest for calm that we find in her series shot in Montreal, even amid the dizzying chaos of a carnival.
