The artist

Against a backdrop of filmmaking, which he practised for a time, Qingjian Meng began his artistic career in 2010. Alongside expert fashion photographers, he produced shots designed for art galleries and international publications. He subsequently became the director of a New York photography studio, specialising in various shooting techniques, to the point of mastering each camera down to its slightest functions. The Californian artist has now rediscovered his roots and works from his base in Los Angeles, devoting his time to the production of fashion photographs and portraits. Inspired by the paintings of great masters or American representations by photographer Salomon Butcher, Qingjian Meng stages 19th century men and women with irony, high-tech objects as popular as a videogame joystick, a Bluetooth earpiece, or even a drone.  ... PEDRO JARQUE KREBS

Ferocious beauties isolated from all context, as though they had been captured in their most secret intimacy, this is the remarkable artistic gesture of Peruvian photographer Pedro Jarque Krebs, restoring to the animals some of their stolen dignity. After studying philosophy at t...

THIBAUD POIRIER

Born to expatriate parents, Thibaud Poirier spent his childhood in many cities around the globe, but out of Houston, Montreal, Buenos Aires, and Tokyo, it was the latter that has influenced him the most: “I discovered architecture there, in particular by Tadao Ando, and it became...

ALFREDO SANCHEZ

Alfredo Sanchez was not predestined for photography. Born in Mexico in 1954, he studied law and took up a career in the private sector. “My free time was spent playing tennis, horse riding, and let’s not forget my favourite pastime: photography,” he says. Much later, towards the ...
