Mango car

Marifer Ruiz imagines a world inspired by a trip to Jamaica, where markets and tropical landscapes form a fantastical setting: enormous fruits, bountiful harvests, and ancient architecture that seems to grow out of the vegetation. Women in colorful suits and wide-brimmed hats strut like models down entire fields of citrus and bananas; the open trunk of a vintage car is filled with citrus fruits and pineapples; men in suits strike poses amid giant watermelons, their faces sheltered beneath sculptural straw hats. Everywhere, the scale is disproportionate, creating the impression of an opulent abundance of tropical fruits and stylized costumes. The staging, somewhere between documentary and fiction, draws on the elegance of fashion photography: composed poses, saturated textures and colors, and a sense of decorum that lends each figure its dignity. This profusion is never portrayed as excess, but as a shared wealth—both cultural and material.
