Looking out

Suso Garcia is twenty-nine years old. Originally from Tenerife in the Canary Islands, he has been living in a small van for the past two years, spending most of his time there. He is self-taught and has never taken any formal training. “The camera helped me come out of my shell, meet people, and open myself up to experiences I would have otherwise missed,” he says. Portugal, the Canary Islands, Morocco, Switzerland: his series takes shape as he travels, without an overarching plan, guided by the places and moments he encounters along the way. The van breaks down regularly, leaving him stranded for several days in the middle of nowhere, but these unexpected stops are an integral part of the journey. Suso Garcia embraces a cinematic style with a Californian flair and a sense of nostalgia that he seeks to capture through his use of color. His influences point in the same direction: road movies like *Into the Wild* or *The Secret Life of Walter Mitty*. The photograph he would have loved to take? The Beatles crossing Abbey Road, immortalized by Iain Macmillan. His motto: “Keep moving forward, keep looking.”
