Born in France into a Russian family, Anya Tikhomirova describes herself as a traveller, an explorer. She roams the world, cultivating herself through the many cultures that she encounters and finding inspiration for her various incarnations. First of all, her life as an international figure skater; then her life as an actress and scriptwriter; and now, her life as a multidisciplinary artist. Anya Tikhomirova mainly works with images through photography, video, drawing, animation, and installations. She approaches her work as she does her life: as a traveller, explorer, and researcher. Influenced by her second country – Costa Rica – her works originate in both the public and private spheres and revolve around the ambivalence humans maintain with all other living organisms. “My work is eclectic, but the terrain I explore is always that of nature: living things and their experience. My approach probably falls within the thinking of writer-traveller Sylvain Tesson: probing the anecdotal to track down the universal.”
