About the artwork

Since childhood, Christine Ellger has pledged an undying passion for photography. References to childhood are also an integral part of her work. We dive into her artistic world in the same way as if we were opening a book of illustrated tales. Mushroom houses, valleys as rollercoasters and books used as stairways to the stars, each of her images evokes fantastic and incongruous worlds in which the spectator is invited to lose themselves. By following paths that cut through the fog or by climbing flying ladders, she uses any devices that will sweep us away into the wildest of dreams. Christine Ellger refers to Romantic painting, which is based on the passions and feelings of the artist. In Germany, Caspar David Friedrich and his landscapes charged with unusual atmospheres inspired the photographer, particularly through the impression of solitude and nostalgia emanating from them.

The artist

Christine Ellger has practised photography since she was 11 years old. The arrival of digital technology and the possibilities it offers for retouching was a real trigger for her. Beyond taking a good photo, Christine Ellger thus looks for themes that will provide sufficient material to create montages. Christine Ellger’s pictures do not contain a sociocritical message but reflect the romantic side of life.  ... See more See less

My images do not have a sociocritical message, they are not documentation, I want to show through my works the romantic side of life.

CLAUDE DEGOUTTE

“The wall belongs to the ‘retards’, ‘inept’, ‘rebels’, ‘simpletons’, to all those with a big heart. It is the blackboard of the school of life,” says French-Hungarian artist Brassaï in his famous back Graffiti. A veritable ode to urban art, Brassaï’s reflection was to mark the a...
