About the Artist
Alexandra JANSENAlexandra Jansen is a self-taught photographer. She works exclusively with natural light, using a vintage 35mm film camera, and has mastered a rare technique: double exposure achieved directly in the camera, without any post-production. Each image is therefore unique, as a double exposure cannot be reproduced exactly the same way twice. This Australian photographer’s practice began during the COVID-19 pandemic, during a difficult period of treatment and isolation. Faced with a world that had suddenly shrunk, she turned to photography as a space for freedom and rediscovered joy. “Sunlight interacts with the film and reveals a mirage of nostalgic leisure,” she says. This is how her Analogue Mixtapes collection was born—a blend of the Studio 54 era and a Beach Boys song, at once melancholic and sun-drenched. Alexandra Jansen is now represented by art galleries in Paris, London, New York, and Sydney, with works in private collections around the world. A portion of every sale she makes is donated to ovarian cancer research.
