About the artwork

Guillaume Girardot likes photographing women. The black-and-white images he has produced on his many travels invite the spectator into the intimacy of exotic landscapes, whether it be the Maldives, Seychelles, or Tunisia. Forgetting the lens nonetheless trained on her, a nude model runs towards the beach in the photograph Faux semblant taken in Mah?. Although it is in black and white, the image only reinforces the carnal style of the author, thus allowing the spectator to avoid visual distractions and focus only on their emotions. The play of light, shadow and transparency envelope the young woman's body, wearing a pareo that reveals her curves.

The artist

After studies in philosophy, Guillaume Girardot decided to devote his time to photography in 1984. This watershed in his professional career was to make him one of the most influential of all fashion and beauty photographers. Spontaneous, fresh, and full of charm, his photographs have toured the world and illustrated eminent fashion magazines, allowing the photographer to collaborate with major brands (L’Oréal, Armani, Nina Ricci, Clarins, or Adidas).  ... CLAUDE DEGOUTTE

“The wall belongs to the ‘retards’, ‘inept’, ‘rebels’, ‘simpletons’, to all those with a big heart. It is the blackboard of the school of life,” says French-Hungarian artist Brassaï in his famous back Graffiti. A veritable ode to urban art, Brassaï’s reflection was to mark the a...
