The artist

Swiss photographer Sébastien Staub continues to fascinate us with the majestic mountain scenes he captures, filled as they are with melancholy, poetry, and soft light. He depicts the incredible beauty of the high summits that surround him, not conquering them like a mountain climber but rather revealing them with the eye of a poet charmed by the nature he sees every day. Born in Lausanne in 1989, Sébastien Staub’s interest in images was sparked at age 16 when he got his first camera, which would years later lead to a career. Alongside his personal adventures and travels, he works for a number of major European brands: Air France, E. Leclerc, Optic2000 and Swatch to give just a few examples.  ... See more See less

About the artwork

Mountains have always captured peoples’ imaginations, and there are many photographers who have tried to document the magnificence of the summits that are accessible only to a select few. The Swiss artist Sébastien Staub is one of the latter, and his images are soft, sensitive and dreamlike thanks to the attention he pays to lighting in post-production. Doing so gives him pastel-coloured images that intensify the aura of mystery that predominates in his work. The series entitled Newlandscape covers a selection of craggy mountains where the feelings of danger and apprehension are absent. The twelfth-highest mountain in the Alps, Matterhorn rises to a summit 4 478 meters high on the Swiss-Italian border. It is certainly the most famous mountain in Switzerland, notably for its pyramidal shape, often used in advertising such as in the logo of the chocolate brand Toblerone.
