About the artwork

This series from Paul Clifton shows motorcycles produced between 1912 and 1942. “It’s a very personal project that gave me the opportunity to speak to lovers of antique motorcycles about our shared passion,” he explains. “For me, the goal was to highlight the beauty of these motorcycles in a simple, straightforward way focusing on their pure beauty.” To do so, he used a portable studio with a main light and then took approximately twenty photographs while moving a second light, which allowed him to obtain the “studio” effect.

The artist

Before becoming a photographer, Paul Clifton was a graphic designer. But being in an office behind a computer wasn’t enough for him. In 2010, he chose to lay down his pencils and pick up his camera again. He created his own studio in Surrey in the south of England. With his easy-going demeanour, he specialised in portraits and regularly creates photographs of employees and bosses in companies. He also does news reporting and artistic projects. His passion for antique motorcycles drove him to create the project Classic Bikes. “It’s a purely personal project that gave me the opportunity to speak with other people who share the same passion”, he explained. “For me, the goal was to showcase the beauty of these pre-1950 motorcycles in a simple, straightforward way that focused on their pure beauty.” In 2018, he was a finalist in the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year competition.  ...
