Although Tommy Kwak was born and raised in Chicago, he has now worked for over a decade in New York as an independent artistic director. When not advising his customers, he roams the world with his camera, “exploring the connections between landscapes and natural forms through ethereal photos”. The sea, sky, or both are often featured. Graduating with a BFA in Graphic Design from the California College of Arts in 2002, he completed his training at the International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York from 2006 to 2008. His photographs demonstrate great technical mastery and are lighter than candyfloss. They have earned him international fame, particularly in Iceland, whose landscape particularly suits his art. He was in residency in Reykjavik in 2010 and 2016 and participated in its International Arts Festival. His next project? “To set off for Greenland to photograph the icebergs.” A subject of study with which his minimalistic style should be perfectly aligned.
