Born in Kiev in the Ukraine, photographer Maryna Khomenko seems to turn her dreams into realities. The dreamlike and colourful world in which she transports the spectator revolves around myths, legends, and fairytales, which she revisits in a contemporary context. Differentiating her work from that of reportage photography, she leaves very little to chance and decides to invent a story for each new composition. Maryna Khomenko began her photography career in 2009 by testing various image treatments using the retouching software Photoshop. A year later, she entered the National University of Karpenko-Kary in Kiev to learn professional skills in the fields of theatre and cinema and train as a camera operator. Steeped in the world of major directors, she professes true admiration for Tim Burton, who crosses the borders of normalcy into strange new territories and whose macabre and supernatural, creative and kooky aesthetic she greatly admires.
