<p>In the center of a sandy patch that evokes the contours of an island stands a forest of columnar cacti lined up like a miniature skyline of skyscrapers, with large sea urchin cacti nestled at their feet. The steel-and-glass structure of the monumental greenhouse draws the eye upward toward the sky and lets light stream through.
