Florian Müller

TRANSITUS ESSENCE 109

About this photograph

In the beginning, there were lines. Nothing but straight and colourful lines composing a landscape reduced to the essential: the sky and the sea. Later, spectators realise that, the more they contemplate them, the more they'll enable them to delve into the artist's imagination. Florian Mueller has continually explored the theme of the permanence of movement. The series Transitus is organised around the line of the horizon. This conception of the landscape like a representation of the infinite evokes the Romantic movement of the 19th century. More specifically, the background of a famous painting by German Caspar David Friedrich entitled The Monk by the Sea (1808-1810) and that aims to represent solitude and powerlessness of individuals in the face of Nature, or, on the contrary, their aspirations of Infinity. Florian Mueller inscribes his work within the tradition of tragic Romantic landscapes. Transitus Essence 109 invites us to breathe in the salty air and admire the sunset over Minorca, one of the Balearic Islands.
