Bernhard Hartmann

La Scala di Milano

Sobre esta fotografía

It was north of the Italian Alps, in opera?s native land, that these classical and grandiose theatres, so dear to Bernhard Hartmann, started to be built in the 18th century. Situated in the heart of the ancient historic centre, La Scala of Milan, an Italian opera house of international renown. The great works of Verdi, Rossini and Wagner were presented there, and Renata Tebaldi and Maria Callas feature amongst their most famous opera singers. The artist is particularly interested in representing the size and magnificence of the theatre when devoid of all human presence.Though the architectural distribution of traditional theatres is often quite similar, Bernhard Hartmann nevertheless underlines the specificity of each of their grand and specific decors. Each bears witness to its own history and especially to the decorative style, quite often representative of a specific artistic period. La Scala in Milan, which dates back to 1778, represents a neoclassical style, greatly influenced by antiquity, which emerged at the end of the 18th century.

El artista
Bernhard Hartmann
