Sébastien Grebille

Douce Normande

Sobre esta fotografía

When he sets out to find new landscapes, Sébastien Grébille looks for the same intense, lyrical and dramatic atmospheres as those that he interprets on a daily basis in classical music. He gives nature the freedom of expressing itself before his lens of its own accord. Thanks to his medium-format camera, the photographer uses the technique of long exposure in order to envelope panoramas with elements of textural density such as clouds, sea swells, and contrasting architectures that appear to spring out of the photographic paper. The artist gives his photographs a unique depth. Confronted by landscapes with tortured skies, he finds a visual connection between the music of Mahler or Brahms and the atmosphere prevalent in these sites. In black and white, they become pure, natural, and full of emptiness and solitude, placing spectators in the midst of an enchanting encounter with the world around them.

Sébastien Grebille

Sébastien Grébille is an expert violinist who completed his studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon before joining the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg in 2001. His talent is not limited to classical music, since he has also practiced photography for over ten years. It was during a tour in the United States that his passion for reporting on performances using black and white photography took hold. Since then, the artist regularly passes from his instrument to his camera in order to retranscribe the intensity of the emotions and technical rigour that animate conductors. He also enjoys photographing nature and becomes, in turn, the contemplative spectator who observes the beauty of the world from behind his lens. Now almost forty, he has exhibited at festivals in France, Belgium and Luxembourg and has been a finalist in a number of contests, including PX3 in 2011.
