About the artwork

Having lived for five years in San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge is one of Ali Erturk?s favourite subjects. Now the most famous monument in San Francisco, it features among the longest bridges in the world. Although it is clearly recognisable with its ?international? orange colour, it nonetheless seems to vary over time. Captured at dawn or just after, Ali Erturk?s photographs rise to the challenge of revealing the monument?s architecture in its various dimensions, through plays of light and very intense colour contrasts. Equally as spectacular are his many photographs taken at sunrise, when the emblematic skyline of San Francisco is still shrouded in the morning mist. Almost entirely covered by a turbulent mantle of clouds, the city thus presents rare and ethereal landscapes to the eye.

Alfredo Sanchez was not predestined for photography. Born in Mexico in 1954, he studied law and took up a career in the private sector. “My free time was spent playing tennis, horse riding, and let’s not forget my favourite pastime: photography,” he says. Much later, towards the ...

PEDRO JARQUE KREBS

Ferocious beauties isolated from all context, as though they had been captured in their most secret intimacy, this is the remarkable artistic gesture of Peruvian photographer Pedro Jarque Krebs, restoring to the animals some of their stolen dignity. After studying philosophy at t...
