About the artwork

Among all of the subjects that he has photographed between Paris and New York, Ludwig Favre's latest series paints a majestic portrait of Copenhagen in Denmark. After his project on the Sorbonne, the French artist continued his series on architectural spaces with Grundtvig's Church, located in the neighbourhood of Bispebjerg in the north of the city and whose construction was completed in 1940. Drawn to its modern expressionist style, Ludwig Favre was attracted by the minimalist decor and perpendicular lines of its huge vaulted rooms. Its narrow windows, elongated rows of columns, and the subdued lighting that inspires meditation all accentuate the sense of height created by the architecture. The most obvious characteristic of this religious building is its use of ochre-coloured bricks, typical of the Baltic regions and of Danish social housing.
