Behind the pseudonym Graphikstreet lies an artist born in 1973, in Villeneuve-d’Ascq, a town in the north of France. After studying communication, he worked in advertising, becoming artistic director for a number of agencies before setting up his own business in 2008. In 2017, he decided to make the leap and begin an artistic career. Influenced by pop art and advertisements from the 1950s, he creates collages that mix photos and posters; a practice that has led him to define himself as a “photographic designer”. “My collages are inspired by the 1950s; I play with shapes, colours, and fonts,” he explains. “Starting with posters and press cuttings, I create a fast-paced, pop aesthetic that results in a balanced, original, and surprising graphic look.” Highly influenced by street art and Jean-Michel Basquiat, he likes to bring past styles to the fore, reusing them in a contemporary context.
