Nicolas Evariste

Elephas Maximus

About this photograph

Through this series of portraits of animals, I wanted to convey an emotion while disregarding the reconstituted/prefabricated environment found in zoos and focusing entirely on the subject.I played on contrasts, pushing them to the extreme, and also on original framings, resulting in a minimalist and highly stylised series.

The artist
Nicolas Evariste

Nicolas Evariste is a photographer from the Granville region, in the English Channel, and his first forays into photography were in 2006. From the outset, he favoured black and white and the square format. He thus places a lot of importance on aesthetic research and minimalism. He considers photography as a means of expression and escapism. He does not necessarily confront his images with reality, but shares a personal and artistic vision of the world we live in.
