Photography agency founded in 1966 by Hubert Henrotte, Jean Lattès, Léonard de Raemy, Hugues Vassal, and Raymond Depardon, who was also its director in order to better control its images and subjects. In the 1970s, the Gamma agency represented excellence in French photo-journalism, alongside Sipa and Sygma. Famous photographers thus covered wars, cultural and sporting events, and social movements but also fuelled the celebrity press by photographing numerous political and artistic personalities. Today, the agency is attached to Gamma Rapho: the leading European photography source with 20 million images deriving from renowned international agencies (Gamma, Rapho, Keystone, Explorer, Jacana, Hoa-qui, Top, and Stills).
