Filmed in 1972, the film Clockwork Orange treats the themes of double personality and people on the edge of collapse. Alex DeLarge, leader of the group Droogs, exerts a blind and sadistic terror in a futuristic England. With his sidekicks, he frequents Korova Milk Bar, whose decor is directly inspired by the work of British painter and sculptor Allen Jones. He consumes Moloko there (milk laced with speed, crack and synthetic mescaline) before committing murders, rapes and other barbaric acts.Stanley Kubrick :In 1945, at the age of 16, Stanley Kubrick began his career as photographer for the renowned magazine Look. There he learnt the tricks of the trade: image composition: lighting and the art of capturing movement. In parallel, he was a regular cinema goer and decided, with his experience as a photographer behind him, to become a self-taught film director. Over his 50 year career, Stanley Kubrick directed 13 feature length films. The director?s incomparable perfectionism, which he took as far as to film the same scene 100 times, explains this short filmography. Out of these 13 films, many are considered major works of art having left a lasting impression on the public and inspired many artists, regardless of their discipline. Kubrick?s photographic debut was influential throughout his career as a director and he doubtlessly films with the eye of a photographer. The 67th Mostra de Venise payed tribute to the photographer Kubrick, exhibiting photographs from the 12,000 negatives to his credit.
