L'artista

Astrophotographer Andrew McCarthy dazzles us with his high-quality images of the moon and planets captured from his garden in Sacramento, California. His meticulous attention to details and patience allow him to reveal the slightest subtleties of the surface of the celestial bodies that surround us. Although his interest in the cosmos began by his father’s side, when he was just a teenager, he became interested in lunar photography in 2017 with the acquisition of his first telescope. His most distant memory is the discovery of Saturn, a fascinating point of view that has endlessly fueled his dream of exploring the heavens. Should the occasion arise, the American photographer would like to be the first man to take images of Earth from the moon’s surface. Perhaps the distances that separate us from the moon will be lessened and his wish will some day come true?  ... Vedi di più Vedere di meno

Sull'opera

At a time of spatial conquest with spacecraft sent into space or telescopes fitted with cameras, whose mysterious and spectacular images regularly make the front pages of the media, it may seem surprising to undertake astrophotographic work. Midway between art and science, Andrew McCarthy’s photography practice allows the stars to be studied with exceptional technological refinement, phenomenal resolutions and sensitivity levels. This image represents the last full moon that occured in March 2019 before the Spring equinox, while the latter was entering its perigee, the closest point to Earth. Entitled Worm Moon, it takes its name from the earthworms that emerge at this time of year.
