Sull'opera

It is through a shark cage immersed off the coast of the island of Guadalupe, Mexico, that Euan Rannachan takes his photos of sharks. The latter, attracted by the tuna slices thrown from the boat, are thus in prime position, revealing their huge jaws and impressive teeth. However, “once you understand that they are not interested in you, the fear evaporates,” the photographer intimates, “and I would like to show sharks as they are, beyond their Hollywood stereotypes.”

L'artista

American photographer Euan Rannachan was born and raised outside of the United States, notably in London, due to his father’s professional obligations. But it was his mother, a professional artist, who passed on her passion for art. When he returned to the USA for his studies, Euan Rannachan chose the San Francisco Academy of Art College, where he undertook traditional training – traditions that he would unendingly pick apart in his subsequent artistic activity. He chose photography and launched his professional career in 2003 with a very broad approach: “I photograph anything from NASCAR car racing to big wave surfing, family portraits, or weddings,” he explains. Nowadays, he works for various companies as a photographer or artistic director. Fascinated by sharks since childhood, he regularly plunges inside a shark cage off the coast of Guadalupe Island in Mexico, to take photographs and attest to the power of this ultimate predator. He has made Ansel Adams’ (1902–1984) motto his watchword: “You don’t take a photo, you make it.”  ... Vedi di più Vedere di meno

RUSLAN BOLGOV

Ruslan Bolgov was born in 1974 in Klaipeda, Lithuania, on the shores of the Baltic Sea. His earliest photographs were taken as a teenager, but he didn’t take the experience very far at the time. It wasn’t until the end of his studies in economics and finance that he seriously app...

CLAUDE DEGOUTTE

“The wall belongs to the ‘retards’, ‘inept’, ‘rebels’, ‘simpletons’, to all those with a big heart. It is the blackboard of the school of life,” says French-Hungarian artist Brassaï in his famous back Graffiti. A veritable ode to urban art, Brassaï’s reflection was to mark the a...
