L'artista

Matthieu Casimiri is a young photographer, an engineer by profession. During long business trips to Asia, he took his first series called ' Asian Urban Depression ' which was exhibited at the Lucernaire Gallery in June / July 2008. His photographicapproach is based on man and in particular, on his interaction with his surroundings, whether urban, industrial or everyday life. Matthieu is currently working on otherseries, notably about Calcutta in a traditional format.www.casimiri.org  ... Vedi di più Vedere di meno

Sull'opera

This series is made up of photos taken in Tokyo, Seoul and Hong - Kong. Far from being documentary or ethnic, Matthieu considers these photos a fragmented and subjective account of life in these large cities and in particular about man's place in them. Through his photos Matthieu wants to show the limits imposed on man, his conscious and unconscious emotions, reactions and postures. The modern urban life described here concentrates the paradoxes : areas dedicated to entertainment where people come to frenetically free themselves and where however everyone seems desperately sad, these isolated people hanging on their telephones, this rush, these static people in a city of constant movement... Not looking to condemn this way of life, he simply wishes to suggest the sometimes dramatic poetry present in these everyday scenes.
