Sull'opera

Photography is by definition the sum of all of the techniques enabling the obtention of images through the aid of an optical device reproducing a real image on photosensitive film. French artist Pascal Mouri does not see it this way. Based in Brussels, Belgium, it is in the studio that he “gives life” to static images. He composes portraits frozen in time at the moment of capture, before shaking them up in post-production. Deconstructed, exploded… the images tell a whole new story, that of Fragment Zero.

L'artista

Pascal Mouri represents a surrealist world. Through his lens, the French artist perceives a fantastical world defying the laws of gravity. Self-taught, he joined the world of the fine arts via painting. Nevertheless, attracted by the infinite possibilities it offers, his heart gradually strayed towards digital photography. For his first studio portraits, he honoured his first passion and adorned his models with body-paint. He later put away his paintbrushes to focus entirely on photography and editing his shots on the computer. The field of possibility opened up: it was a revelation for the art photographer! To attain even more freedom, he works exclusively in the studio, so as to master the lighting and adapt things as desired. His creativity now knows no bounds. He uses an abundance of materials, fragmenting and levitating elements… Pascal Mouri’s work offers a transition to a new, gravity-free dimension. Paradoxically, these dreamlike representations are inspired by the world of fashion but also some of the great masters of the Renaissance such as Michelangelo and Caravaggio. Finally, Pascal Mouri is convinced of the benefits of chance within his creative creative process; he allows for an element of improvisation and authorises spontaneous energies from the elements and subjects to create surprising photos.  ...
