L'artista

Born in Germany, Klaus Tiedge was an important figure in advertising photography for over 20 years. His work led him to travel the world – from India, to Japan, Brazil, and the United States – but it was South Africa that stole his heart and he decided to move there permanently. To practise his profession of photographer, in 2001 he settled in Cape Town, a vast multicultural city located at the tip of the country and that has been reinventing itself since the end of apartheid. Klaus Tiedge decided in 2008 to dedicate himself exclusively to art photography and focuses his work entirely on the African continent, which he appreciates for its rich cultural diversity and authenticity. In addition to his impressive images of wildlife, he has attracted attention for his sensitive series of portraits of the Himba and Zemba peoples in Namibia, but also through his collection of majestic baobabs. “My interest in Africa has not diminished over time. I feel as though I’m travelling now more than ever,” he says.  ...

KLAUS TIEDGE

Sull'opera

German-born photographer Klaus Tiedge criss-crosses Africa in search of answers. His photographic practice has always been guided by his questions about other civilisations, the diversity of the animal kingdom, and nature. Since the 19th century, Africa has fuelled the imaginations of Western artists. Beyond paying tribute to its beauty, these artists have sought to uncover the mysteries of a land and culture that will remain forever inaccessible to them. After over a decade spent travelling across the continent, Klaus Tiedge affirms that his curiosity today is just as strong as ever and that Africa is ?good for his soul?. High-quality key lighting, brilliant composition, and technical perfection are emblematic of this artist's work, who has clearly done his time in commercial photography and now seeks to draw our attention to the beauty and diversity of the African continent.
