Der Künstler

Although Nick Stark didn't turn to photography until 2010, he has already garnered over twenty international distinctions and notably the prize at the Sony World Photo Awards en 2014. The artist helms his prolific career from Munich, a city in the south of Germany where he was born in 1975 and still resides today. Trained in design up until 1997, this former advertising artistic director already approached colours with extreme precision and spoke of composition and balance in images with his associates without manipulating a camera himself or mastering retouch software. Playing on nearly perfect symmetries, the photographs of urban landscapes that he creates today have been published in several publications since 2013 and notably The New York Times, ELLE or Lufthansa Magazine.  ... Rund ums Werk

Nick Stark?s photographs draw the eye with their highly contrasted colours, new perspectives and the distinct forms between their various planes. The photographer?s intention is not to reproduce reality but to play with the elements that he photographs and share his personal interpretation. The greyish housing blocks that are usually perceived as ugly by society are heightened and exposed under a colour-filtered light. Attracted by cityscapes and passionate about architecture, he produces structured artworks with geometric designs, whose aestheticism seems to be marked by the work of photographic duo Bernd and Hilla Becher, the spearheads of an important German documentary movement. Their approach consists of establishing an inventory of industrial buildings according to an extremely rigorous protocol. Nick Stark was inspired by their no-frills frontal series, taken under a neutral sky.

PEDRO JARQUE KREBS

Ferocious beauties isolated from all context, as though they had been captured in their most secret intimacy, this is the remarkable artistic gesture of Peruvian photographer Pedro Jarque Krebs, restoring to the animals some of their stolen dignity. After studying philosophy at t...

THIBAUD POIRIER

Born to expatriate parents, Thibaud Poirier spent his childhood in many cities around the globe, but out of Houston, Montreal, Buenos Aires, and Tokyo, it was the latter that has influenced him the most: “I discovered architecture there, in particular by Tadao Ando, and it became...

ALFREDO SANCHEZ

Alfredo Sanchez was not predestined for photography. Born in Mexico in 1954, he studied law and took up a career in the private sector. “My free time was spent playing tennis, horse riding, and let’s not forget my favourite pastime: photography,” he says. Much later, towards the ...
