MICHAEL AW

BIOGRAFIE

Born in Singapore and now based in Sydney, Australia, Michael Aw is one of the most influential marine photographers. In 1991, he abandoned his career in advertising to devote himself exclusively to underwater photography. This career change was an obvious choice for Michael Aw. He became the author of numerous essays and pictures published in prestigious magazines: BBC Wildlife, GEO, and National Geographic, among many others. He soon came to lead expeditions of international scope, to document the fauna and flora of the oceans (“Elysium Epic” in Antarctica and the Arctic; “Deep Hope” in the aphotic zones around the world…). Through his work in the marine world, he now counts among the most fervent defenders of the environment. The author of thirty-seven books, he has already won over seventy prestigious international awards including four “Wildlife Photographer of the Year” awards from the Natural History Museum of London and BBC Wildlife (2000, 2006, 2010, 2015), a NOGI Award from the Academy of Underwater Arts and Sciences (AUAS) in 2013, an award for the “Best Book of the Year” at the World Underwater Pictures Festival (2012), and more.  ...
