De kunstenaar

Herod Becen was born in France around thirty years ago. Born in Rennes and passionate about Brittany, he moved to Saint-Pabu in the heart of the black mountains of the Finistère region. A student of literature, he taught for several years at the Université de Bretagne Occidentale before becoming a professional photographer. His body of work has been formed on his travels, whether roaming inland areas or strolling along the coast. He has crisscrossed the wildest forests and coastal areas in search of places favourable to meditation, which he calls “energy places”. Herod Becen contemplates the horizon from his workshop located in an inlet and prepares his future series by anticipating each of his creations. An accomplished yogi, he compares his spiritual practice to his vision of photography, which he hopes to shed of any superfluous aesthetics, considering that the more beautiful something is, the simpler it should be.  ... Over het werk

It is mainly with literature that the young photographer Herod Becen associates his art. Working in the places he wishes to explore, he captured these three marine views of the Atlantic with a sense of spirituality. His images are pure and simple and thus present landscapes full of emotion and authenticity. They are a call to meditation and serenity. Besides his studies, the photographer is also sensitive to poetry and mainly to the short verses of Charles Baudelaire. Working with a medium-format camera or a view camera, he favours formats derived from easel painting and not those of traditional report coverage. Herod Becen wants his photography to be sufficiently precise to give the impression of a kind of ?living window? that he has captured on his travels off the beaten path.
