Sull'opera

Oceans was shot off the coast of South Africa and follows a highly spectacular natural phenomenon on a massive scale: the Sardine Run. This is the migration of an immense shoal of sardines, passing close to the coast and near the surface, suddenly becoming accessible to a whole horde of predators, particularly the Gannets shown in these shots, but also sharks, dolphins, seals, whales, etc.

L'artista

Mathieu Simonet started learning photography at the age of 17. Inspired by the black and white photographs of Edouard Boubat and Leonard Freed, his first works were taken in the streets of Paris. He later studied cinema and trained as an actor, then a director. Independently of the photo reports that he produced during his travels to the four corners of the earth, he became the chief photographer for the film Winged Migration, produced and co-directed by Jacques Perrin. This adventure lasted 3 years, allowing him to fly with the birds and photograph them in flight. In 2004 and 2010, he directed two short films, Le Carnet Rouge then Prunelle et Mélodie. All of these years away did not stop him from returning to photography for the purposes of the film Oceans, Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud's new opus to nature. Mathieu Simonet is currently participating in the shooting of the film The Seasons, and preparing his first feature film as a director with Galatée Films, Après les Étoiles.  ... ALFREDO SANCHEZ

Alfredo Sanchez was not predestined for photography. Born in Mexico in 1954, he studied law and took up a career in the private sector. “My free time was spent playing tennis, horse riding, and let’s not forget my favourite pastime: photography,” he says. Much later, towards the ...

RUSLAN BOLGOV

Ruslan Bolgov was born in 1974 in Klaipeda, Lithuania, on the shores of the Baltic Sea. His earliest photographs were taken as a teenager, but he didn’t take the experience very far at the time. It wasn’t until the end of his studies in economics and finance that he seriously app...

CLAUDE DEGOUTTE

“The wall belongs to the ‘retards’, ‘inept’, ‘rebels’, ‘simpletons’, to all those with a big heart. It is the blackboard of the school of life,” says French-Hungarian artist Brassaï in his famous back Graffiti. A veritable ode to urban art, Brassaï’s reflection was to mark the a...
