L'artista

Born in the suburb of Paris, Franck Bohbot set down his suitcases in 2013 in the borough of Brooklyn in New York. Since 2008, he has been recognised for his photographs in colour of urban scenes and public spaces. Fascinated by cinematic iconography, he focuses his creation around the relationship between individuals and architecture. Each series contains this same photographic intention: their enigmatic atmosphere, documentary approach, and timeless character evoke a cosy, dreamlike, and almost unfathomable space, as though taken straight from a dream. Franck Bohbot thus immortalises street scenes, swimming pools, libraries, basketball courts, museums, movie theatres, and fairgrounds, but also artists, athletes, or artisans. His works have been published in the prestigious New York Times Magazine, The Financial Times, National Geographic, Corriere Della Serra, Le Nouvel Observateur, and Les Inrockuptibles. He received the Prix International de Photographie in 2013 and the Prix Archifoto 2014.  ...

FRANCK BOHBOT STUDIO

Sull'opera

While Bernd and Hilla Becher, the initiators of New Objectivity, dedicate their work to photographing industrial installations, French photographer Franck Bohbot experiments with an equally exacting protocol that enables him to draw up an inventory of the landscapes he travels through. The systematic frontal and centred views of his subjects offer a documentary dimension based on typologies. It is precisely this systematism and the notion of the overview that confers an artistic and majestic dimension to his works. The photographer's external gaze lends a monumental dimension to these venues, which are transformed into singular and captivating spaces, both sociohistorically and aesthetically. This image was created in the Salle Labrouste of the Bibliothèque de L'Institut National d'Histoire de l'Art (INHA) in Paris. Designed by Henri Labrouste in 1860, this room was restored in 2016 to recover its elegance, light, and the atmosphere of studious comfort originally devised by its architect.
